UTQG grades. Higher treadwear lasts longer; traction AA–C; temperature A–C.

Load & Speed
Trucks, SUVs, and EVs carry more weight, so the load index matters. On LA freeways, never go below the speed rating your car came with. Check your vehicle's owner's manual and door-jamb label.
The Date Code

Pressure

Put a penny in the tread with Lincoln's head upside down. If you can see all of his head, your tread is at or below 2/32". Try a quarter: if you see all of Washington's head, you're under 4/32".
EV Tires
Electric Vehicles Need Different Tires
Heavier cars, higher load ratings
Batteries add hundreds of pounds. EV tires carry a higher load index, often marked XL or HL.
Instant torque wears tires faster
Quick launches scrub tread. Rotate on schedule and expect shorter tread life than a gas car.
Foam liners for quiet cabins
With no engine noise, road hum stands out. Many EV tires have a foam layer inside to cut it.
Low rolling resistance and range
The right tire can protect several percent of your range. Grippier tires usually trade some range away.
What 'EV-rated' actually means
It's a marketing label, not a legal standard. What matters: load index, speed rating, and the specs on your door-jamb label.
